1989 Documented theca with relic of Canadian Blessed Mary Catherine of St. Augustine, OSA

Round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class Ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of the Blessed Mary Catherine of St. Augustine. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. M. Cathar. a S. August. (Blessed Mary Catherine of St. Augustine).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (the Carmelites). The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and sealed on 23 April of 1989 (on the very day of her beatification) by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the Causes of Canonization.

Blessed Mary Catherine of St. Augustine, OSA (French: Marie-Catherine de Saint-Augustin) (†1668) was a French canoness regular who was instrumental in the development of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec in service to the colony of New France. Due to her self-sacrifice for both the European settlers of the colony and for the native inhabitants, Catherine came to be honored as one of the six founders of the Catholic Church in Canada, representing the contributions of the Augustinian canonesses. She has been beatified on 23 April 1989 by Pope John Paul II and her feastday is celebrated on 8 May.
