Blessed Alfredo Pellicer Muñoz († 1936) s celebrated as one the Martyred Friars Minor of Valencia, Spain. In July 1936, just days before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Alfredo made his solemn profession as a Franciscan Friar Minor. Despite the escalating anti-Catholic sentiment and the imminent danger posed by the Republican forces, he remained steadfast in his commitment to God and his religious calling. Refusing to yield to his family's pleas to become a teacher to avoid persecution, Alfredo demonstrated unwavering faith and courage. Unfortunately, his resolute dedication to his beliefs did not go unnoticed, and soon after his profession, Alfredo was arrested by the anti-Catholic forces. During his imprisonment, he was pressured to renounce his faith and deny God, but he steadfastly refused to do so. On 8 September 1936, Alfredo Pellicer Muñoz, at the age of 22, was executed by firing squad in Castellón, Spain. He is venerated as one of 233 Martyrs of Spain beatified as the entire group by Pope John Paul II on 11 March 2001.
