The ‘Weep Not for Me’ Most Holy Mother of God iconography is taken from the Canon for Holy Saturday: “Weep not for me, Mother, seeing in the tomb the son, conceived without seed in the womb, For I shall arise and be glorified, as God I shall exalt with glory unceasing those who with faith and love magnify you.” The icon depicts half-figured Mother of God in lamentation over a much-smaller figure of dead Christ shown on the lower part of the icon.
