Icon of the Lamentation (The Entombment of Christ) depicts the body of Christ clad in a lioncloth on the white burial shroud being placed on the stone of anointing. The Mother of God, two angels, and others regard the body and the empty cross is depicted on the background in a rocky landscape. While Greek iconography of the Lamentation tends towards emotionalism, Russian iconography gives a scene a transcendent peace.
