Reliquary theca with a relic of Bl. Antonia of Florence, Abbess of L'Aquila

Oval glass-fronted silvered brass pendant reliquary theca housing the second-class Ex subcorpore sudario (from the shroud covering the body)relic of Blessed Antonia of Florence. The relic is affixed on a background of silk, surrounded by a silver wire and ornamentation and identified in Latin on a fancy manuscript cedula label as Ex subcorpore sudario B. Antoniae Vid. Floren. (from the shroud of Blessed Antonia, Widow of Florence). On the back, the reliquary is secured by the perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with a coat of arms of Fr. Francesco Maria Ginori (†1775), Bishop of Fiesole, Italy (1736–1775).

Blessed Antonia of Florence (†1472), born in Florence, Italy, was a devout Catholic widow who dedicated her life to God. After her husband’s death, she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic, embracing a life of prayer, charity, and penance. Known for her deep spirituality and compassion, she served the poor and sick, becoming a model of Christian virtue. Antonia later became prioress of a Dominican convent, guiding others in faith. Antonia died on 29 February 1472. Many miracles occurred at her tomb and her body has remained incorrupt. She was beatified in 1847 by Pope Pius IX.
