New Arrival
Vatican reliquary theca with relics of St. Charles Borromeo & St. Philip Benitius O.S.M.

Oval glass-fronted white metal pendant reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus (bone) relics of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Philip Benitius O.S.M.  The relics are affixed to a red silk ground, surrounded by silver wire and gilt paperolle ornamentation, and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedulae labels as S. Caroli. Bor. // S. Philip: Benit. (Saint Charles Borromeo // Saint Philip Benitius). On the back, the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint with a coat of arms of Bishop Nicola Angelo Maria Landini, O.E.S.A. (†1782), Titular Bishop of Porphyreon and Vicar General of the Vatican Curia.

Saint Charles Borromeo (Italian: Caroli Borromeo, Latin: †1584) was a cardinal who was archbishop of Milan from 1564 to 1584. Among the great reformers of the troubled 16th century, Borromeo, with St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Philip Neri, and others, led the movement to combat the inroads of the Protestant Reformation. He was a leading figure during the Counter-Reformation and was responsible for significant reforms in the Catholic Church, including the founding of seminaries for the education of priests. He is a holy patron of apple orchards; bishops; catechists; catechumens; cardinals; seminarians; spiritual directors; spiritual leaders; Lombardy, Italy; and Monterey California; and sought to assist in intestinal disorders; against ulcers; colic; and stomach diseases.

Saint Philip Benitius O.S.M. (Philip Benizi de Damiani) (†1285) was a general superior of the Order of the Servites, and credited with reviving the order. Pope Leo X had beatified him in 1516; and Pope Clement X canonized him as a saint in 1671.
