Round white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of the Blessed Mary of Providence. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. Mariae a Provid. (Blessed Mary of Providence). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits). The reliquary is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued by the Postulator General of the Order on 26 May 1957 (the very day of her beatification).
Blessed Mary of Providence HHS (†1871) was a nun, friend of St John Vianney, and the foundress of the Society of Helpers of the Holy Souls in Paris on 19 January 1856, with the objective of assisting the Souls in Purgatory through their service to the needy of the world. Born as Eugénie Smet on 25 March 1825 at Lille, France and died on 7 February 1871 at Paris, France of breast cancer at the age of 45. She was beatified on 26 May 1957 by Pope Pius XII in Rome. Her Feast Day is commemorated on 7 February.
