Vatican Reliquary theca with relics of Martyr Saint Sebastian, Patron of Soldiers

Round white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus  (of the bone) relics of Saint Sebastian. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Sebastiani, M. (Saint Sebastian Martyr).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Ugo Poletti (†1997), Vicar General of Rome (1973–1991) and a 1990 date of issue.

Saint Sebastian († c. 288) was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to Christian belief, he was killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. He is commonly depicted in art and literature tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows. Patron of Soldiers, plague-stricken, archers, holy Christian death, athletes, Negombo, and Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarlac.
