1993 Documented reliquary theca with relics of the Blessed Fra Giovanni da Fiesole (Fra Angelico), patron of Catholic artists

Round yellow-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus  (of the bone) relics of Blessed Fra Giovanni da Fiesole. The relic is affixed to a blue silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. Giov. Angel. P. (Blessed Giovanni Angelico, the Order of Preachers )  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of Friars Preachers (better known as the Dominicans). The relic is accompanied by an original matching authentics document issued and sealed by the Postulator General of the Order in 1993.

Blessed Fra Giovanni da Fiesole (Brother John of Fiesole) or Fra Angelico (Angelic Brother John)(†1455) was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance, described by Vasari in his Lives of the Artists as having "a rare and perfect talent". He earned his reputation primarily for the series of frescoes he made for his own friary, San Marco, in Florence. In modern Italian he is called Beato Angelico (Blessed Angelic One); the common English name Fra Angelico means the "Angelic friar". Fiesole is sometimes misinterpreted as being part of his formal name, but it was merely the name of the town where he took his vows as a Dominican friar, and was used by contemporaries to separate him from others who were also known as Fra Giovanni. He is listed in the Roman Martyrology as Beatus Ioannes Faesulanus, cognomento Angelicus—"Blessed Giovanni of Fiesole, surnamed 'the Angelic' ". Vasari wrote of Fra Angelico that "it is impossible to bestow too much praise on this holy father, who was so humble and modest in all that he did and said and whose pictures were painted with such facility and piety." Pope John Paul II beatified Fra Angelico on October 3, 1982, and in 1984 declared him patron of Catholic artists.
