Saint Conrad of Parzham, O.F.M. Cap. (†1894), was a German Franciscan lay brother who served for over 40 years in the post of porter of the Capuchin friary in Altötting, through which work he gained a widespread reputation for his wisdom and holiness. During his lifetime, Conrad was reputed to have been able to read the hearts of those he met, and he was attributed with the gift of prophecy. His heroic virtues and the miracles he performed won for him the distinction to be ranked among the Blessed by Pope Pius XI in 1930. Four years later, the same pope, approving additional miracles which had been performed, solemnly inscribed his name in the list of saints. He is the patron saint of the Mid-America Province of Capuchin Friars and his feast is celebrated on 21 April.
Saint Bernardino of Siena, also known as Bernardine (†1444) was an Italian priest and Franciscan missionary famous during his own lifetime for preaching against sorcery, gambling, infanticide, witchcraft, sodomy, Jews, and usury. Bernardino was later canonized by the Catholic Church as a saint - where he is also referred to as “the Apostle of Italy” - for his efforts to revive the country's Catholic faith during the 15th century. He is a patron saint of advertising, communications, compulsive gambling, respiratory problems, as well as any problems involving the chest area. He is the patron saint of Carpi, Italy; the Philippine barangays of Kay-Anlog in Calamba, Laguna, and Tuna in Cardona, Rizal; and the diocese of San Bernardino, California, USA. Siena College, a Franciscan Catholic liberal arts college in New York, USA, was named after him and placed under his spiritual patronage. His Feast day is commemorated on May 20.
Saint Louis Bertrand O.P. (†1581) was a Spanish Dominican friar who preached in South America during the 16th century, and is known as the "Apostle to the Americas". He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. He was canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671 and His feast day is observed on 9 October. The festival known as La Tomatina is held in Buñol, Valencia, in honor of the town's patron saints, Louis Bertrand and the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats (Mother of God of the Defenseless).
