Antique Russian Orthodox silver lampada hanging icon oil lamp

Russian silver hanging lampada oil lamp with an original colored glass insert and three silver chains. Hallmarked in Cyrillic BC for an unidentified silversmith.

In the Orthodox Church, lampada oil lamp is a small vessel on a spider-type chain filled with lighting oil that is hung in front of the icons and lit during worship. According to the Church Fathers, the flame of an oil lamp lit during worship symbolizes the heart of praying aflame with love for God.
