Round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Blessed Michele Rua. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by paperolle ornamentation and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as Ex Ossibus // B. Michaëlis Rua (of the bone of Blessed Michele Rua). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Salesian Society. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed 29 October 1972 (the very day of his beatification) by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.
Blessed Michele Rua (†1910) was a Salesian priest and the first successor to St. John Bosco as Rector Major of the Salesian Society. Entering the Salesian Oratory at 15, he was mentored by Don Bosco, becoming a priest in 1860. Known for his fidelity to Bosco’s mission, Rua expanded the Salesians’ work, establishing schools and missions globally. His leadership emphasized education and care for youth, earning him the title “living rule” for his adherence to Salesian principles. Despite frail health, he served until his death. He was beatified by Pope Paul VI on 29 October 1972, and his feast day is celebrated on October 29.
