1980 Documented reliquary theca with relic of Bl. José de Anchieta, Apostle of Brazil

Round glass-fronted white-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Blessed José de Anchieta. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. Josephi de Anchieta (Blessed José de Anchieta). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Jesuit Order. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1980 by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.

Blessed José de Anchieta (†1597) was a Spanish Jesuit priest, missionary, and scholar known as the "Apostle of Brazil." Joining the Jesuits in 1551, he arrived in Brazil in 1553, dedicating his life to evangelizing indigenous peoples. He co-founded São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, using education, theater, and music to spread Christianity. Fluent in Tupi, he wrote the first grammar of the language and composed poetry and plays. Despite frail health, his tireless mission work left a lasting legacy. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1980, and his feast day is celebrated on June 9.
