Blessed Paschal Fortuño Almela († 1936) was ordained a Franciscan priest in 1913. Famed as a teacher, he spent 5 years in Argentina before returning home to an apostolic life of preaching and devotion to the Eucharist. Caught up in the violence of the Spanish Civil War, he was assassinated while traveling on the road. He is venerated as one of 233 Martyrs of Spain beatified as the entire group by Pope John Paul II on 11 March 2001.
