New Arrival
1993 Vatican documented theca with relics of 2 Martyr Popes: St. Pope Pius I & St. Pope Anicetus

Round yellow-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relics of two early Martyr Popes: Saint Pope Pius I and Saint Pope Anicetus. The relics are affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on typeset cedulae labels as S. Pii I. P.M. // S. Aniceti P.M. (Saint Pius I, Pope & Martyr // Saint AnicenusPope & Martyr ). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Ugo Poletti (†1997), the Vicar General of Rome (1973–1997). The reliquary is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued by the Vicar General of Rome in 1993.

Saint Pope Pius I († c. 154) was the bishop of Rome from c. 140 to his death. He is considered to have opposed both the Valentinians and Gnostics during his papacy. He is celebrated as a Martyr saint by the Catholic Church with a feast day on 11 July.

Saint Pope Anicetus († 168) was the bishop of Rome from c. 157 to his death. He actively opposed Gnosticism and Marcionism. He welcomed Polycarp of Smyrna to Rome to discuss the Easter controversy. He suffered martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Lucius Verus. The Liber Pontificalis states he was buried in the cemetery of Callistus. His Feast Day is commemorated on 20 April[1] (West) 17 April (Greek Christianity) and 17 April (Tridentine calendar).
