1993 Vatican documented theca with relic of St. Augustine of Hippo, Doctor of the Church

Round white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Augustine of Hippo. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Augustini E.C.D. (Saint Augustine, Doctor of the Church). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Ugo Poletti (†1997), the Vicar General of Rome (1973–1997). The reliquary is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued by the Vicar General of Rome in 1993.

Saint Augustine of Hippo (†430) was an early Christian theologian and philosopher whose writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and Western philosophy. He was the bishop of Hippo Regius in North Africa and is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers in Western Christianity for his writings in the Patristic Era. Augustine was canonized by widespread acclaim and later recognized as a Doctor of the Church in 1298 by Pope Boniface VIII. His feast day is 28 August, and he is venerated by all Christian denominations which venerate saints. He is considered the patron saint of brewers, printers, theologians, sore eyes, and a number of cities and dioceses.
