Oval glass-fronted silvered brass reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Liborius of Le Mans. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by gilt paperolle and silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as S. Liborii (S. Liborius). On the back, the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Antonio Cantoni (†1781), Bishop of Faenza, Italy (1742–1767) and Archbishop of Ravenna, Italy (1767–1781). The theca is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed by Bishop Cantoni in 1766.
Saint Liborius of Le Mans (†397) was the second Bishop of Le Mans. He is the patron saint of the cathedral and archdiocese of Paderborn in Germany, invoked against calculi; against colic; against fever; and against gallstones. His feast day is commemorated on July 23.
