Saint Samuel was one of the early Franciscan missionaries who was martyred in his efforts to evangelize Morocco. Together with Sts, Daniel they are considered the first Franciscan martyrs.
Round white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Samuel, Martyr. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Samuelis M. (Saint Samuel, Martyr). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Matteo Guido Sperandeo (†1987), Bishop of Calvi e Teano, Italy. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued in 1957 by Bishop Sperandeo.
