Reliquary theca with relic of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

Round yellow-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing a first-class relic of the Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on typeset cedula label as S. Gabriel a V. Perd. (Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Postulator General of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (commonly known as The Passionists).

Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows (†1862) was an Italian Passionist clerical student. Born to a professional family, he gave up hopes of a secular career to enter the Passionist Congregation. His life in the monastery was not extraordinary, yet he followed the rule of the congregation perfectly and was known for his great devotion to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary. He died fromtuberculosis at the age of 24. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920 and His Feast day is celebrated on 27 February.
