1989 Vatican-documented reliquary theca with relics of St. Monica of Hippo, Patron of married women

Round yellow-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing first-class ex Ossibus  (of the bone) relic of Saint Monica of Hippo. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Monicae Vid.  (Saint Monica, Widow).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Petrus Canisius Jean van Lierde, O.S.A. (†1995), the Titular Bishop of Parphyrion, in his capacity of the Vicar General for the Vatican City State. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and sealed in 1989 by Fr. van Lierde.

Saint Monica of Hippo (c. 332 – 387 AD) was an early African Christian saint and the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. She is remembered and honored in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, albeit on different feast days, for her outstanding Christian virtues, particularly the suffering caused by her husband's adultery, and her prayerful life dedicated to the reformation of her son, who wrote extensively of her pious acts and life with her in his Confessions. Popular Christian legends recall Saint Monica weeping every night for her son Augustine. She is a patroon of married women; difficult marriages; disappointing children; victims of adultery or unfaithfulness; victims of (verbal) abuse; and conversion of relatives; and alcoholics.
