1919 Documented reliquary theca with relic of the Blessed Seraphina Sforza, Poor Clare Abbess

Oval glass-fronted silvered brass pendant reliquary theca housing the first-class ex cineribus (of the bodily ashes) relic of Blessed Seraphina Sforza. The relic is affixed to the center of the theca surrounded by gilt silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as B. Seraphina (Blessed Seraphina Sforza).  On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Archbishop St. Guido Maria Conforti (†), Bishop of Parma, Italy (1907-1931), who himself was canonized as a Saint in 2011 by Pope John Paul II on account of his life of heroic virtue. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and sealed by the order of Monsignor Conforti in 1919.

Blessed Seraphina Sforza (Sveva da Montefeltro) (†1478) was an Italian beatified nun and noblewoman of the House of Montefeltro. She is venerated by the Catholic Church for her life of devotion despite the hardships she encountered. After an arranged marriage at the age of fourteen to Alessandro Sforza, lord of Pesaro, Sveva became known as Sveva Sforza. Some years later, Alessandro, himself carrying on a public affair with another woman, accused Sveva of adultery and plotting to kill him. He forced her to enter a convent of the Poor Clare order there she took the name Seraphina (or Serafina), and later became abbess. She was beatified by Pope Benedict XIV in 1754, and has been venerated since, especially by Franciscans. Her feast day is celebrated on 9 September.
