1885 Vatican documented reliquary with relics of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, patron of hospitals

Small round glass-fronted silver reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Elizabeth of HungaryThe relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a  manuscript cedula label as S. Elisabethae Vid. Regis. (Saint Elizabeth, Widow and Queen). On the back, the theca is secured with a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Lucido Maria Parocchi (†1903), Cardinal-Priest of San Lorenzo in Damaso (1899–1903), Chamberlain of Apostolic Chamber (1839-1854), and Vicar General of Rome (1884–1899). The theca is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed by Cardinal Parocchi in 1885.

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, T.O.S.F., († 1231) was a princess of the Kingdom of Hungary, Landgravine of Thuringia, Germany, and a greatly venerated Catholic saint who was an early member of the Third Order of St. Francis, by which she is honored as its patroness. Elizabeth was married at the age of 14, and widowed at 20. After her husband's death she sent her children away and regained her dowry, using the money to build a hospital where she herself served the sick. She became a symbol of Christian charity after her death at the age of 24 and was quickly canonized in 1235 by Pope Gregory IX. She is also a patron of hospitals, nurses, bakers, brides, countesses, dying children, exiles, homeless people, lace-makers, and widows. Her Feast is celebrated on November 17th.
