The icon depicts the New Testament Trinity of Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit above. Jesus is pictured on the left with a closed book of the Gospels and a monumental cross, God the Father as the venerable old white-bearded man depicted on the right blessing with one hand and holding an Orb in the other, between them is a six-winged Seraph. Above them the Holy Spirit appears as a dove in divine light. The Holy Trinity pattern was officially unacceptable, but nonetheless very common in icons of both State Church and of the Old Believers who separated from the State Church after the liturgical revisions of Patriarch Nikon in the mid-17th century.
