A rectangular hand-painted velvet-backed finift porcelain icon depicting Our Lady of the Kyiv-Caves Monastery. Very good original condition.

The Svensk (Kyiv-Caves Monastery) Icon of the Mother of God is the oldest of the icons that survived, painted in the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. According to legend, its author was a Monk Alipy of the Caves. The icon was glorified by healings of the blind and of the possessed, and has long been regarded as a protector from enemies.
