Theca with a first-class ex ossibus relic of Saint Andrew Avellino

Gilt silver Glass-fronted pendant reliquary theca housing first-class ex ossibus relic of the Saint Andrew Avellino. The relic is surrounded by paperole ornamentation and identified in Latin on a paper cedula as S. And. Avel. (Saint Andrew Avellino). On the back, the theca is secured by a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with coat of arms of Bishop Nicola Angelo Maria Landini, O.E.S.A. (†1782), Titular Bishop of Porphyreon and Vicar General of the Vatican Curia.

Saint Andrew Avellino (†1608) was a renowned Italian Theatine priest and saint. After studying law and receiving ordination, he worked as a lawyer in the ecclesiastical court of Naples, but a lie he told during a case provoked a profound conversion. Joining the Theatines in 1556, he took the name Andrew and devoted himself to austere reform, rigorous penance, and apostolic zeal. Famous for his eloquence in preaching and tireless work among plague victims, he suffered a fatal stroke at the altar while beginning Mass. Canonized in 1712, he is invoked against sudden death. His feast day is celebrated on November 10.
