Russian Icon - the Ascension of Jesus Christ

This icon depicts the Ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. At the center stands the Most Holy Theotokos, the Ever-Virgin Mother of God, as the steadfast pillar and foundation of the Church. Encircling her in reverent awe are the twelve holy Apostles, their faces and hands lifted toward the divine mystery. Above them, Christ ascends in radiant glory, arms outstretched in blessing upon His faithful disciples and the whole world. He rises to the right hand of the Father, imparting peace and the promise of the Holy Spirit. In this sacred image, earthly sorrow becomes heavenly hope, with the Theotokos remaining as the living icon of the Church, while her Son reigns eternally.
