Russian Icon - The Ascension of Christ

The Ascension of the Lord is recorded in the Gospels of Mark and Luke and is a major movable feast in the Orthodox Church. The icon depicts Christ rising to heaven in the circle of Divine light. Two angels on the hill below gesture toward him while his disciples look on in wonder. The Virgin Mary is standing in the center with onlooking disciples.
