Russian Icon - Christ Enthroned with Sts. Zosima & Sabbatius, Founders of the Solovetsky monastery

This icon depicts Christ Enthroned, a revered iconographic type of Jesus Christ as the enthroned Pantocrator. Christ is shown full-figured, seated upon the throne of glory, His right hand raised in blessing and His left hand holding the Orb. Behind his throne are two Angels and on his sides are the Most Holy Theotokos and Saint John the Baptist, forming the Orthodox Deisis. Kneeling in prayer at His feet are the great Russian wonderworkers Venerable Saints Zosima and Sabbathius, founders of the Solovetsky monastery.

The ascetic style and black ground are characteristic of the North-Western Old Believer (Pomor) iconography with a principal center in Vyg on the White Sea.
