Silver reliquary with a Passion relic of the Column of Flagellation of Jesus Christ

Back

An opulent crystal-fronted silver reliquary monstrance profusely decorated with filigree silver housing a relic of the Christ's Passion - a pebble particle from the Column of Flagellation of Jesus Christ.  The relic is affixed to a ground of multicolored silk, surrounded by silver wire and gold paperolle ornamentation and identified in Latin on a manuscript cedula label as Ex Col. D.N.J.C. (from the Column of Flagellation of Our Lord Jesus Christ). On the back, the reliquary is secured by a perfectly preserved seal of red Spanish wax with clear imprint of a coat of arms of Fr. Nicola Angelo Maria Landini, O.E.S.A. (†1782), Titular Bishop of Porphyreon, Sacristan of His Holiness, and Vicar General of the Vatican Curia (1764-1782).
