Reliquary theca with relics of St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools

Oval glass-fronted brass theca housing a second-class pre-canonization ex veste (of the vestment) relic of Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle. The relic is affixed to a red silk background and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as Ex Veste B. J. B. de La Salle.  (Of the vestment of the Blessed Jean-Baptiste de La Salle). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax with an imprint of a coat of arms of a Catholic religious teaching congregation of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle (†1719) was a French priest, educational reformer, and founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools who is venerated as a saint of the Catholic Church. La Salle dedicated much of his life to the education of poor children in France; in doing so, he started many lasting educational practices. He is considered the patron saint for teachers of youth. He was beatified in 1888, and canonized on May 24, 1900, by Pope Leo XIII. His feast day is commemorated on April 7.
