Reliquary theca with relics of Saints Lorentino & Pergentino, Martyrs of Arezzo

Back

Round glass-fronted gilt brass reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relics of 2 early Martyr Saints: Saints Lorentino and Pergentino of Arezzo. The relics are affixed to a red silk background decorated with silver wire ornamentation and identified on manuscript cedulae labels. On the back, the theca is secured with a perfectly-preserved seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of an unidentified Italian Roman Catholic Bishop.

Saints Lorentino and Pergentino of Arezzo († both on June 3, 250) were two Christian martyrs beheaded by emperor Decius. The Church of Santi Lorentino e Pergentino in Arezzo, located along the former ancient Roman road which connected Chiusi to Florence, erected on the place of their burial, houses their relics.
