1995 Documented reliquary theca with relic of Bl. Anthony Pavoni, Dominican Martyr

Back

Round glass-fronted yellow-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Blessed Anthony Pavoni, Martyr. The relic is affixed to a silk ground surrounded by silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as B. Ant. Pav. M. (Blessed Anthony Pavoni, Martyr). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Dominican Order. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1995 by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.

Blessed Anthony Pavoni (†1374) was an Italian Dominican priest and martyr. Joining the Order of Preachers, he served as prior in several Dominican houses and was appointed inquisitor general for Lombardy and Genoa. Known for his fervent preaching against heresy and his commitment to the poor, Pavoni earned both admiration and enemies. On April 9, 1374, he was ambushed and martyred by assailants in Bricherasio, Italy, for his uncompromising faith. His steadfast devotion and courage led to his beatification by Pope Pius IX in 1856. His feast day is celebrated on April 9.
