1993 Vatican reliquary theca with relic of St. Agnese of Rome, Martyr
Round white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Agnese of Rome. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Agnetis V. M. (Saint Agnese, Virgin & Martyr). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of Monsignor Ugo Poletti, the Vicar General of Rome (1973-1997).
Saint Agnese of Rome († c. 304) is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, the Anglican Communion, and Lutheranism. She is a holy patron of betrothed couples; chastity; Children of Mary; gardeners; Girl Guides; girls; rape survivors; virgins; the diocese of Rockville Centre, New York; and the city of Fresno. Her feast day is commemorated on 21st of January.
