Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (†1690) was a French Visitation nun and mystic whose reported visions of Christ helped spread devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At the monastery of Paray-le-Monial, she promoted a spirituality centered on Christ’s love, Eucharistic devotion, and reparation, supported by her spiritual director, Saint Claude de la Colombière. Pope Pius IX beatified her on September 18, 1864, and Pope Benedict XV canonized her on May 13, 1920. Her feast day is October 16.

Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat (†1865) was a French religious foundress devoted to the Christian education of girls. In 1800, she founded the Society of the Sacred Heart, combining devotion to the Heart of Jesus with a broad educational mission. Under her leadership, the congregation developed an international network of schools, including provision for poor children. Pope Pius X beatified her on May 24, 1908, and Pope Pius XI canonized her on May 24, 1925. Her feast day is May 25.
