1993 Documented reliquary theca with relic of Spanish St. Henry de Ossó y Cervelló

Back

Round glass-fronted yellow-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Henry de Ossó y Cervelló. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by gilt silver wire and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Her. de Ossó (Saint Henry de Ossó [y Cervelló]). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing a partial imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of the Discalced Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (commonly known as the Discalced Carmelites). The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed on June 16, 1993 (the very day of his canonization) by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.

Saint Henry de Ossó y Cervelló (also known as Saint Enrique de Ossó y Cervelló or Enric d'Ossó i Cervelló) (†1896) was a Spanish diocesan priest. He pursued the priesthood despite early family opposition and was ordained in 1867. A passionate catechist and apostle to youth, he promoted Gospel education and women's spiritual formation. Deeply inspired by Saint Teresa of Ávila, he founded the Society of Saint Teresa of Jesus (Teresian Association) in 1876 to educate girls in Christian values. He authored catechetical works and endured trials with fidelity. He died on January 27, 1896, in Gilet, Valencia. Beatified October 14, 1979, and canonized June 16, 1993, by Pope John Paul II in Madrid, his Feast Day is commemorated on January 27.
