Back

Round glass-fronted yellow-metal reliquary theca housing the first-class ex ossibus (of the bone) relic of Saint Andrew Bobola. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as S. Andreae Bobola, (Saint Andrew Bobola, [Martyr]). On the back, under the protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Jesuit Order. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and signed in 1990 by the Postulator General of the Order responsible for the cause of beatification and canonization.

Saint Andrew Bobola SJ (Polish: Andrzej Bobola)(†1657) was a Polish missionary and martyr of the Society of Jesus, known as the "Apostle of Lithuania" and the "Hunter of Souls". Ordained a priest in 1622, he served as a preacher, superior, and missionary in Lithuania and Belarus amid religious tensions and plagues. Known as the "Apostle of Lithuania" and "hunter of souls" for converting thousands through zealous preaching and pastoral care. During the Khmelnytsky Uprising, Cossacks captured, brutally tortured and martyred him for refusing to renounce Catholicism. Canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1938, he is patron of Poland and the Archdiocese of Warsaw; his incorrupt relics are in Warsaw. Feast: May 16.
