1991 Documented reliquary theca with relics of the St. John Joseph of the Cross
Round yellow-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing the second-class ex habitu (of the habit) relic of the Saint John Joseph of the Cross. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground identified in Latin on manuscript cedula label as S. J. Joseph a Cruice. On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured with a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Order of Friars Minor. The relic is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued and sealed in 1991 by the Postulator General of the Order.
Saint John Joseph of the Cross (†1739) was an Italian priest and a professed member from the Order of Friars Minor who hailed from the island of Ischia off the coast of Naples. He had a reputation for austerity and for the gift of miracles. He was beatified under Pope Pius VI in 1789 and was later canonized as a saint on 26 May 1839 under Pope Gregory XVI. His feast day is commemorated on March 5th.
