1954 Documented theca with relic of St. Gaspar del Bufalo, founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood

Round gilt white-metal glass-fronted reliquary theca housing the first-class ex carne (of the flesh) relic of Saint Gaspar del Bufalo. The relic is affixed to a red silk ground surrounded by silver wire ornamentation and identified in Latin on a typeset cedula label as Ex Carne // S. Gasp. D. Buf. C. (of the flesh of Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, Confessor). On the back, under a protective cap, the theca is secured by a seal of red Spanish wax bearing an imprint of a coat of arms of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood Order. The reliquary is accompanied by the original matching authentics document issued by the Postulator General of the Order on June 12, 1954 (on the very day of his canonization). 

Saint Gaspar del Bufalo (†1837), also known as Gaspare del Bufalo, was a Roman Catholic priest and the founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. He worked tirelessly to re-evangelize central Italy, especially the Papal States. He was well known for his eloquence in preaching, his devotion to the poor (especially the Santa Galla Hospice in Rome), and his work with the brigands of southern Lazio. He was beatified by St. Pius X in 1904, and canonized by Pope Pius XII on June 12, 1954. His feast day, as indicated in the Roman Martyrology, is on the day of his death, December 28, but has not been included in the General Roman Calendar. Currently, his Feast Day is celebrated on October 21.
